The last $1,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em event of the 2014 World Series of Poker drew a field of 2,525 players, creating a total prize pool of $2,272,500.

In the end, the last man standing from the massive field was Edina, Minnesota’s Mike Kachan, who earned his first career gold WSOP bracelet and the $403,483 first-place prize. Incredibly, the 30-year-old almost missed the tournament entirely.

“When the tournament started I was in northern Utah driving in and got here with 20 [big blinds],” he said. “The rest was history I guess. It feels great, it was a tough ride, but it was well worth it. I am really thankful for all of the people I have behind me.”

To grab the victory, Kachan had to overcome a final table that included Ray Henson (9th), Steve Gross (7th), Eric Shanks (3rd) and Jeff Blenkarn (2nd). Other notables to make a deep run included Matt Salsberg (10th), Justin Schwartz (14th), Sean Getzwiller (33rd) and Loni Harwood (46th).

Here is a look at the final table results.
