Going into the main event, poker pro Humberto Brenes accumulated 10 cashes at the 2014 summer World Series of Poker. The record for a single summer is 11.
On Wednesday, Brenes was grinding an average stack on day 2c of the main event. Should he make the money, the poker veteran will tie Konstantin Puchkov, who recorded 11 in 2012. The record doesn’t include cashes at a WSOP held in Europe or the Asia-Pacific.
Here’s a look at Brenes’ events:
Event #65: No-Limit Hold’em Main Event — TBD
Event #62: The Little One for One Drop — 222nd
Event #51: No-Limit Hold’em Monster Stack — 784th
Event #37: Pot-Limit Omaha — 102nd
Event #28: Pot-Limit Hold’em — 14th
Event #25: Omaha/Seven-Card Stud Eight-or-Better — 32nd
Event #20: No-Limit Hold’em Shootout — 38th
Event #8: Millionaire Maker No-Limit Hold’em — 315th
Event #6: No-Limit Hold’em Shootout — 71st
Event #4: No-Limit Hold’em — 233rd
Event #3: Pot-Limit Omaha — 77th
Altogether, he has cashed for more than $60,000.
Six players, including Tony Cousineau, Daniel Negreanu and Matt Glantz, cashed nine times at the 2014 WSOP, prior to the ongoing $10,000 buy-in main event.
The record will likely be in jeopardy every year, as the WSOP continues to grow by adding more events. This year, a record 65 bracelet events were held at the Rio Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. That’s nearly double the amount of events held in 2004—the last year WSOP tournaments were held at Binion’s Gambling Hall in Downtown Las Vegas.
Sixty five bracelet events this summer drew 82,360 total entries. That’s also a new record, beating last year’s mark by 3.6 percent. With the WSOP online poker product in the mix, and it likely to increase liquidity as time goes on, the turnout for bracelet events should keep trending upward.
Brenes has two career WSOP bracelets and has cashed 82 times lifetime.
