The WSOP is vanishing in the poker world’s rear view mirror as the tournament circuit just continues to charge forward. This week a number of big changes took place in the 2014 Card Player Player of the Year race, sponsored by CarbonPoker. Here is a look at the event’s that made the biggest impact over the past seven days.

Venetian Deepstack Extravaganza III $1 Million Guaranteed $5,000 NLH Main Event

Jake SchindlerThe 2014 Venetian Deepstack Extravaganza III $1 Million guaranteed $5,000 no-limit hold’em main event attracted 367 entrants, blowing away the guarantee to build a total prize pool of $1,715,725.

In the end the last player standing was Mark Dube. For the win he earned $377,467 and 1,200 POY points. He topped a tough final table that included the likes of Tommy Vedes (8th – $44,609), Kevin MacPhee (7th – $56,619), Ami Barer (6th – $72,060), Justin Young (5th – $94,365), Paul Volpe (4th – $125,248) and Jake Schindler (3rd – $169,857).

Barer and Schindler were both already in the top twenty in the POY standings, and as a result of the 400 and 800 points that they respectively earned with their final table finishes in this event they both climbed inside the top ten in the standings. Barer, who took down the 2014 Aussie Millions main event, now sits in eighth place with 2,830 points and year-to-date earnings of $1,565,395. This was Schindler’s fourth final table of the year, startingr off strong with a win in the $25,000 high roller event at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure and a final table in a $5,000 event at the L.A. Poker Classic. He ended the summer with a few big scores as well, finishing third in a WSOP $3,000 no-limit hold’em event for $212,373 and now this sizable cash.

Mike LeahThe 2014 Venetian Deepstack Extravaganza III $800,000 guaranteed $1,100 no-limit hold’em event was in many ways the second main event of the series. A massive turnout of 1,945 players built a $1,913,880 prize pool, more than doubling the guarantee.

Chris Hunichen emerged victorious, taking home $301,442 and 1,080 POY points for the win. This was his third final table appearance of the year, and as a result he climbed to 22nd place in the rankings with 2,120 points and year-to-date earnings of $490,193.
