The country of Turkey has blocked 110 gambling websites that it says are illegal over the last five years, according to an annual report released by the country´s telecommunications authority on Monday, Middleeasteye.net reported.
The groups behind the initiative are the National Lottery and Turkey’s telecommunications authority. The Lottery said that it wanted action against 440 gambling websites over the five years, but just the 110 were blocked.
Gambling is illegal in Turkey, as of 2007. Brick-and-mortar casinos closed in 1997.
Turkey has a population of roughly 74 million people.
