A total of 221 players turned out for day 1a of the Card Player Poker Tour Choctaw $500,000 guarantee $1,500 no limit hold’em main event and after 18 40-minute levels, Lynn Samples ended the night out in front of the 27 hopefulls who remained.

Samples began slowly chipping up about halfway through the day and by the time play was winding down for the night, it appeared as if she just could not be stopped. She will return for day 2 with a massive stack of 591,000, while the next closest opponent – Allen Carter – has 470,000.

Samples made her mark at Choctaw earlier in the week when she won event 47: $300 no-limit hold’em $30,000 guarantee for $14,861, making her one the fourth of five women to win open events so far this series.

The tournament is well on it’s way to smashing the guarantee, as happened last year when the prize pool topped over $1 million. A mere 113 players are needed on day 1b to make the promised money and that number is sure to be reached very early on.

Notables in the field throughout the day included Jordan Morgan, fresh of his World Series of Poker bracelet win, six-time WSOP bracelet winner T.J. Cloutier, WSOP bracelet winner Bryan Campanello, World Poker Tour champion Andy Hwang, three-time WSOP Circuit ring winner Justin Gardenhire and CPPT Foxwoods runner-up Chris Tryba. Of those players, only Gardenhire and Morgan bagged chips when play ended for the day.

Also in the field was La Sengphet, who holds three WSOPC rings herself, and Jonathan Bloyen. The two players are the largest cashers outside the main event for the series, Bloyen topping $55,414 for his win in the $570 no-limit hold’em $200,000 guarantee, and Sengphet picking up $32,532 for taking down the $400 no-limit hold’em $150,000 guarantee. Sengphet also took sixth in the $200,000 guarantee for $10,645. Neither player made day 2.

Play will begin on day 1b at 12 pm local time and all the action from the tournament floor will once again be featured on cardplayer.com.
