Phillip LeeThe with the final numbers in, 599 players turned out for the Card Player Poker Tour Choctaw main event over two starting days, smashing the $500,000 guarantee in the $1,500 no-limit hold’em tournament.

When day 1b came to an end Phillip Lee was out in front of the second starting day’s field with 361,500, however the over all chipleader will be Lynn Samples, who bagged up 591,000 on day 1a.

A mere 78 players will return for day 2 and the payouts will quickly begin after only a few eliminations. Those fortunate enough to make the money will take home no less than $2,850, but everyone will be eyeing the $183,025 top prize from the $871,545 prize pool and the title of CPPT champion.

Notables who turned out for day 1b included six-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner T.J. Cloutier, World Poker Tour champion Andy Hwang, WSOP bracelet winner and CPPT Foxwoods runner-up Chris Tryba, two-time WPT champ Tommy Vedes and WSOP Circuit ring winner Tyler Morris.

Mohammad AraniThe field also drew defending champion Mohammad Arani, runner-up Allan Farber, third place finisher Lou Barlow and fifth place finisher Matt Ludlow. Arani took home one of the largest CPPT paydays in the tour’s history last August, more than $220,000, and Farber left with jut over $136,000. Those scores placed the two of them among the tour’s all-time money earners.

Only Arani and Barlow remained at the end of the night, meaning Arani could possibly become the first two-time CPPT champion.

Play will begin on day 2 at 12 pm local time and all the action from the tournament floor will once again be featured on cardplayer.com.
