Report: More Than 50 Percent Of People In Northeast Now Live Within 25 Miles Of A CasinoGaming Revenue In Region Now Up To More Than $13 Billion Annually |

According to an infographic from The New York Times, gaming revenue in the Northeast part of the United States has grown to more than $13 billion annually, up from around $5 billion in 1990 and up significantly since right before the Great Recession sank gaming win.
The boost in gaming revenue is due to more casinos in the region. According to The Times, “more than half the population in the Northeast now lives within 25 miles of a casino featuring video lotteries, table games or slot machines, up from about 10 percent a decade ago.”
That stat is good evidence as to why Atlantic City has been suffering.
The beachfront town was once the only place in the region to gamble, but now nearby states have taken up the casino industry. Pennsylvania actually leapfrogged New Jersey.
Just today, it was announced that the most expensive casino ever built in Atlantic City will close its doors next month. By October, Atlantic City will be down to eight casinos.
At the end of 2013 it had 12.
The Times chart was adjusted for inflation.
