The 10th annual Arizona State Poker Championship at Talking Stick Resort and Casino in Scottsdale, Arizona drew a whopping field of 1,460 players for their $1,000+$100 main event, creating a total prize pool of $1,460,000.
A total of 150 players made the money, guaranteeing themselves a payday of at least $2,044, but the lion’s share of the prize pool went to eventual winner Robert Tanita, who banked $257,690 and the title.
Tanita, a Phoenix local with just one small previous cash on his tournament resume, overcame a formidable final table that included Kenna James (ninth), David Williams (eighth) and Matt Affleck (fifth).
Other notables who cashed in the tournament included Justin Pechie (13th), Leif Force (22nd), Jimmy Fricke (35th), Karina Jett (41st), Mike Wattel (51st), Max Steinberg (74th), Ryan Hughes (103rd) and Kevin O’Donnell (146th).
