In this Card Player weekly feature we look to provide our readers with a guide to some of the biggest poker events taking place in their area for the upcoming week. FLORIDA
- The 2014 SHR Poker Open (Aug 14, ‘14 – Sep 03, ’14) The Seminole Hard Casino in Hollywood, Florida has played host to some of the biggest poker tournaments in the world in recent years, and in the coming week they are set to kick off a few more gigantic events. The centerpiece of their 2014 SHR Poker Open series is the $10,000,000 guaranteed $5,300 no-limit hold’em main event that begins with the first of three starting days on Aug. 28th at noon local time. The survivors from day’s 1A, 1B and 1C will combine into one field on Aug. 31st and continue to play until a champion is decided on Sept. 3rd.
- The 2014 PPC Pensacola Summer Showdown (Aug 24, ‘14 – Aug 31, ’14) The Pensacola Greyhound Track & Poker Room has put up a $50,000 guarantee for their $250 buy-in no-limit hold’em event which features four starting flights, all beginning at 1:00 PM from Aug. 27th through the 30th.
INTERNATIONAL
- The 2014 Montreal Festival (Aug 22, ‘14 – Sep 03, ’14) The Playground Poker Club in Kahnawake, Canada is hosting a $1 million guaranteed $1,100 no-limit hold’em event that kicks off on Aud. 29th with the first of three starting days which all begin at 11:00 AM local time. Play will continue until a winner emerges at the final table on Sept. 3rd.
CALIFORNIA
- The 2014 WPT Legends of Poker (Jul 28, ‘14 – Sep 02, ’14) This week the Bicycle Casino in Bell Gardens, CA moves into the final stages of it’s marquee tournament series the Legends of Poker. The centerpiece of the whole affair is undeniably the he $3,700 World Poker Tour Legends of Poker main event which kicked off with the first of three starting days on Aug. 23rd at 1:00 PM. Players looking to buy-in to this event can still do so on Aug. 25th for day 1C, or can choose to take advantage of the Bike’s unique “Quantum Reload” format designed by their tournament director Mo Fathipour and buy-in for $10,000 on day 2, receiving a 60 big blind stack to play with.
- The 2014 Poker Summer Open (Aug 21, ‘14 – Sep 02, ’14) The Pala Casino Spa and Resort in Pala, CA is currently in the midst of their Poker Summer Open, the centerpiece of which is the $20,000 guaranteed $160 buy-in no-limit hold’em event which will run on Aug. 30th beginning at 12:15 PM local time.
SOUTH
- The 2014 Gulf Coast Poker Championship (Aug 21, ‘14 – Sep 01, ’14) The Beau Rivage Resort & Casino in Biloxi, MS kicked off it’s Gulf Coast Poker Championship last week, and in the coming days will launch into it’s $300,000 guaranteed $1,600 no-limit hold’em main event. The tournament features three starting flights, with day 1A beginning at noon on Aug. 29th, 1B kicking off at noon on the 30th and the final flight starting at 6:00 PM that evening.
NORTHEAST
- The 2014 Pittsburgh Poker Open Summer Series (Aug 21, ‘14 – Sep 01, ’14) The Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh, PA is set to host the $50,000 guaranteed main event of their Pittsburgh Poker Open Summer Series this week. The $1,100 buy-in no-limit hold’em event features two starting days, each beginning at noon on Aug. 29th and 30th.
MIDWEST
- The 2014 Labor Day $500K Deepstack Tournament (Aug 27, ‘14 – Sep 01, ’14) The Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati in Ohio kicks off a $500,000 guaranteed $1,500 no-limit hold’em event with the first of two starting days on Aug. 29th.
