|
Last week there were some seismic shifts at the top of the leaderboard in the 2014 Card Player Player of the Year race, sponsored by CarbonPoker. The past seven days didn’t alter things quite as radically, but two players did make some moves inside the top 20. Here is a look at what went down this week:
Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open $200,000 Guaranteed $2,200 Six-Max NLH
In the wake of the 2014 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open the casino has reported more of the results in their preliminary events. It turns out that Joe Kuether, who finished fifth in the $10,000,000 guaranteed $5,300 no-limit hold’em main event for $424,044 and 800 POY points had also placed runner-up in the $2,200 no-limit hold’em six-max event. The tournament featured a $200,000 guaranteed prize pool, which was exceeded by $36,000 when 118 players turned out for the event.
Kuether lost heads-up to eventual champ Mohammed Maghraoui. For his runner-up finish he earned $50,276 and 200 POY points. This was Kuether’s sixth final table finish of the year, with his one title win of 2014 coming in a $5,300 no-limit hold’em prelim event at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. Kuether continues to prove himself to be one of tournament poker’s most consistent achievers. In 2012 he finished 14th in the POY race and last year he placed 32nd. As a result of his recent success in Florid he has climbed into 16th place in the overall standings this year with 2,636 points and year-to-date tournament earnings of $762,856.
Borgata Poker Open $1,650 No-Limit Hold’em Heads-Up
Nobody has more Player of the Year-qualified tournament titles in 2014 than Joseph McKeehan. With five wins under his belt this year and seven total final-table finishes, McKeehan has steadily won his way into the POY top 20.
His most recent victory came in a $1,650 no-limit hold’em heads-up event at the Borgata Poker Open that was capped at 64 players. For the win he earned $37,248 and 144 points.
McKeehan’s other four titles this year have all come in medium sized prelim events, with his single largest score of the year actually coming from a second-place finish in the gigantic 7,977-player $1,500 no-limit hold’em “monster stack” event at the World Series of Poker which earned him $820,863 and 1,100 POY points.
As a result of all of his success this year McKeehan has climbed into 13th place in the rankings with 2,924 total points and $1,193,232 in earnings so far in 2014.
