Three-time Stanley Cup champion Ken Daneyko, who played his entire career for the New Jersey Devils, is now involved with the Garden State’s online poker industry.
Last week, PartyPoker NJ announced that Daneyko will join the site’s “first line,” which means he will be participating in online tournaments, contributing content to the site’s blog and engaging with poker-playing fans.
Daneyko is not a poker newbie. In April, he won the World Poker Tour Borgata Spring Poker Open $230 Deepstack for $14,723. He beat out 270 other players.
“I used to get excited at the drop of a puck but now I can’t wait for the turn of the river,” Daneyko said in a statement. "[…] I love New Jersey, I love poker and there is no better place to play online in the Garden State than on partypoker.com. I can’t wait to play, have fun, win and make new friends online…but mostly win because I love the competition.”
Mike Sexton said that Daneyko “will be a great ambassador for online poker in New Jersey.”
According to PokerScout, Party Borgata is currently averaging 150 cash game players over the past seven days—tops in New Jersey. The site, along with a WSOP-branded product from Caesars, dominate the New Jersey online poker market.
In July, Garden State online poker sites took in $2.15 million in rake.
In January, the Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils, which are under the same ownership, inked a marketing deal with PartyPoker NJ. The deal was the first of its kind (pairing up with an online gambling operator) for a major U.S.-based professional sports teams.
