Bankrupt Revel, the most expensive casino in the history of free-falling Atlantic City, could re-open and be home to a bizarre university, reported Press of Atlantic City.

The Florida real estate developer who has put in a $90 million bid for the property that originally came at a price tag of $2.4 billion said he wants to build a second tower to the facility. From the report:

In it: a colony of “some of the smartest people in the world,” living and working on pressing global problems, like nuclear waste disposal. “The university’s going to go in,” [Glenn] Straub said by phone Thursday. “It’s going to be for geniuses.”

The man behind the strange idea also said he wants a casino at the Revel property, but that gambling won’t be the dominant draw, the report added. Maybe the geniuses will be.

So, when scientists are taking a break from thinking about nuclear waste they can walk downstairs and hit up the blackjack tables? This would be an odd one in casino history.

Glenn StraubOh, and get this: Straub reportedly said he is planning on doing all of this because he’s bored.

Another part of trying to curb the boredom would be building a high-speed ferry and rail systems and an “underground passageway” so guests don’t have to go outside.

Straub’s bid hasn’t won yet, but it’s looking like his chances are good. At a bankruptcy hearing Monday in the Garden State, Revel attorneys said Straub’s company is the sole bona fide bidder on Revel, the report said.

An auction is scheduled for Sept. 24 if another qualified bidder emerges, according to the report.
