With the late summer push in the books and the true fall season just around the corner it was a bit of a slower week in the 2014 Card Player Player of the Year race, sponsored by CarbonPoker. There were still plenty of POY points and big payouts to be awarded over the past seven days. Here is a look at the week’s results:

Aria Super High Roller III

Brian RastA total of 33 entries were made in the latest super high roller event at Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. This time around the no-limit hold’em tournament featured a $50,000 buy-in, meaning that the event ended up with a total prize pool of $1,617,000.

The top five players made the money, with Roger Sippl emerging victorious. For the win the businessman with a background in computer software earned his first major live tournament title, the $776,160 first-place prize and 510 Player of the Year points.

Sippl topped Martin DeKnijff heads-up for the win. Finishing in fourth place was Brian Rast, who was at his fifth final table of the year. Rast started off 2014 with a win in a $25,000 high roller at the Bellagio in the spring, and has finished fourth or better at each of his final tables. For his most recent finish he earned $129,360 and 255 POY points. As a result he now sits in 78th place in the overall POY standings, with 1,595 points and $821,843 in year-to-date earnings.

Venetian Deepstack Extravaganza 3.5 $400,000 Guaranteed Main Event

Thi NguyenThe Venetian Deepstack Extravaganza 3.5 tournament series was capped off this week by the $400,000 guaranteed $1,600 buy-in main event. A total of 360 entries were made by the close of registration, building a $524,160 prize pool that easily surpassed the guarantee.

Heading into the final day it looked like Jeremy Ausmus had a chance at winning his third Venetian main event, as he was among the chip leaders of the final 17 players. He eventual was eliminated in 12th place, however, earning $8,858 for another deep run.

In the end the last player standing in this event was Thi Nguyen. For the win she earned the title, the trophy, the $120,561 first-place prize and 600 POY points. This was her first POY-qualified final table this year, and as a result she still sits outside of the top 500 in the standings.
