2014 CarbonPoker Card Player Player of the Year Update -- Jason Mercier Into To Eighth Place

Jake Bazeley Also Climbed In The Ranks With A Win This Week

The final countdown has begun in the 2014 Card Player Player of the Year race, sponsored by CarbonPoker. Here’s a look at what went down in one of the last weeks on the tournament circuit:

2014 World Poker Tour Alpha8 St. Kitts High Roller

Jason MercierJason Mercier emerged victorious from a field of 15 total entries in the 2014 World Poker Tour Alpha8 St. Kitts $100,000 super high roller no-limit hold’em main event. For the win the 28-year-old poker pro from Davie, Florida earned $727,500 and his 19th career tournament title. With this latest score he increased his lifetime live tournament earnings to $13,456,326 and climbed into tenth place on the all time live tournament earnings list.

In addition to the title and the money Mercier also earned 600 POY points at his sixth final table finish of the year. Earlier this year Mercier finished runner-up in a $100,000 buy-in super high roller at the Bellagio for $1,622,181 and second in the EPT Barcelona €10,300 no-limit high roller for another $623,682. He also finished third two events, first in the $10,000 no-limit deuce-to-seven single draw lowball championship at the World Series of Poker this summer for $99,313 and 320 POY points and then in the WPT Alpha8 Johannesburg $100,000 super high roller for another $200,000 and 400 points.

This most recent score was Mercier’s first title of the year, however, and it was enough to catapult him into eighth place in the overall standings with 3,706 total points and year-to-date earnings of $3,506,084.

2014 WSOP Circuit Harrah’s Cherokee

Jake BazeleyJake Bazeley topped a field of 797 entries to win the 2014 World Series of Poker Circuit Harrah’s Cherokee $1,675 no-limit hold’em main event. For the win the 31-year-old poker pro from Cincinnati earned his first WSOP Circuit gold ring and the $239,096 first-place prize.

In addition to the title, the hardware and the money Bazeley also earned 912 POY points. This was his fourth final table appearance so far in 2014 with the previous highlight being a fourth-place finish in the $5 million guaranteed $3,500 World Poker Tour main event at the SHR Poker Showdown in April for $371,931. His other two final table finishes came in smaller events at the 2014 Million Dollar Heater series at the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino in Biloxi, MS.

With this win Bazeley increased his POY point total for the year to 2,190 points, which was enough to move him into 47th place in the overall standings. His year-to-date earnings for 2014 total $671,235.
