Sometimes in daily fantasy sports (DFS) you come across a slate of games and salaries for players that make you feel cornered into constructing your lineup with one general framework. That’s not a knock on a site, but rather just an observation about how DFS can be sometimes.

This week, NFL DFS is shaping up to be one of those weeks. All of the cheap players at quarterback and running back are in spots where they’re very unlikely to provide much value to your fantasy team. Keep that in mind when reading over these suggestions for your FantasyDraft teams this weekend.

Quarterback

Aaron Rodgers ($18,200) and Peyton Manning ($17,800) – For my money, it’s fairly clear that having one of these two football playing cyborgs in your lineup is going to give you a leg up on the competition this weekend on FantasyDraft. Both are at home, both are playing defenses that are mediocre at best, oh and they’re widely regarded as the two best quarterbacks in football. Don’t get cute. Let your opponents do that at the quarterback position.

Running Back

Eddie Lacy ($14,400) – Coming into the year and at various points during the year, I was pretty skeptical of Eddie Lacy from a fantasy standpoint. As the year went on he made it pretty clear that I was wrong about him. The biggest reason was his increased production in the receiving game. This year he had 42 receptions for 427 yards, which boosted his value in point-per-reception (PPR) formats above that of a touchdown dependent running back in a good offense. This week he gets a mediocre Dallas defense at home and should be a good bet for about 100 total yards, a few catches and a touchdown.

Marshawn Lynch ($14,300) – Beast Mode! Okay, okay, I’m from Seattle and Marshawn is a homer pick. But the guy has been a total monster at home over the past two years. He’s averaged more than one touchdown per game at home in that span, hitting pay dirt 21 times in 16 games. He also hasn’t been a slouch in the postseason, producing a string of strong performances last year in addition to one of the most epic single runs in NFL history in the 2011 playoffs. With the Seahawks coming in as 10.5-point favorites, Lynch is set up to be very busy pounding the rock and should turn in a good stat line.

Wide Receiver

Julian Edelman ($10,100) – While this may sound weird, Edelman is my top play at wide receiver on FantasyDraft this weekend. All signs point to Edelman being cleared to play after a concussion caused him to miss the final two weeks of the regular season. Now Edelman isn’t a typical ‘top play’ for me at wide receiver, but as stated in the opening paragraph this week isn’t your typical week. Spending so much at other positions leaves wide receiver as my position to hunt for value and in my opinion Edelman provides a great value at his price. He may not be a top play for me on other sites, but on FantasyDraft, he’s the man!

Paul Richardson ($6,000) – Richardson didn’t make much of a splash early in the year for the Seahawks. But he came on strong toward the end of the season, finishing with at least 50 yards receiving or a touchdown in each of the last three games of the season. For a minimum price when you desperately need a value play, he stands out.

Tight End

Rob Gronkowski ($13,800) – In the passing game, the tight end position generally experiences low volume and high volatility. Often times, if your tight end doesn’t score a touchdown then he doesn’t provide much value to your fantasy team. Well Rob Gronkowski isn’t a normal tight end. He’s basically the exception to all tight end rules. He has a high floor and a high ceiling every single week as the key cog in the New England passing game. I would recommend using him this week and just about every week he is an option to you.

Jason Witten ($10,500) – In the non-Gronk division, Jason Witten seems like the best option to me because he offers a little consistency. Given his ability and chemistry with Tony Romo, Witten is the only other tight end on the board this week that you can feel pretty good about projecting to catch four or five passes. In PPR formats, that in itself holds a good amount of value and makes Witten another decent option.

Defense

Seattle ($8,200) and Green Bay ($7,000) are my two favorite defenses of the week. If you can afford the Seahawks, they’re clearly the top option. If you need the extra $1,200 to spend elsewhere, the Packers provide a nice cheap option.

FantasyDraft is offering another great collection of contests this week. The headliner is the $25 buy-in $25k guaranteed Playoff Challenge. In addition to the Playoff Challenge, they have the $10 buy-in $10k guaranteed Divisional Battle and the $5 buy-in $5k guaranteed Still In It. I’ll be in on the action. Hope to see you there.
