Ontario Lottery and Gaming has unveiled a new online gambling site, PlayOLG.ca, to its residents that includes casino games such as blackjack, baccarat, roulette, slots and video poker. The site also allows users to purchase lottery tickets online.

The OLG says that Ontarians currently spend about $500,000 a year on off-shore gambling sites and is hoping that their new product will keep that money in the province.

People can now register for the site and also have to set a mandatory weekly maximum on the amount they wish to gamble. They can also play free games on the site if they don’t want to risk any real funds.

Proceeds from the site are paid into the Consolidated Revenue Fund of Ontario and provide support to hospitals, cultural activities, non-profit corporations and other charitable organizations.

Ontario is now the seventh Canadian province of 10 that offers regulated online gambling. The other six are British Columbia, Quebec, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.

Ontario is by far the most populous of Canada’s provinces. It’s nearly 13 million residents account for almost 40 percent of the country’s total population.
