Card Player Poker Tour: Tryba Going For Title, Raymer Still AliveThe Main Event Crushed the $300,000 Guarantee |
|
A mass of players swarmed the tournament area at Foxwoods Resort Casino beginning Saturday morning for the Card Player Poker Tour $1,650 no-limit hold’em $300,00 guarantee main event. The steady stream of players taking their seats continued throughout most of the day as the reentry period remained open and then a second starting flight got underway in the early evening hours.
Flight 1A amassed a field of 188 entries, nearly making the guarantee in its own right, and set the stage for the prize pool to swell far beyond $300,000. Flight 1B saw 94 players pony up the money, bringing the total prize pool to $410,310 and ensuring the winner will take home $94,084. In total, 36 players will make the money with payouts starting at $3,200.
Of the 282 players who started day 1, only 98 remained when chips were bagged for the night. Todd Mitchell picked up the overall chiplead with 285,300. Bart Guthie and Konstantinos Katkakis were not far behind with 235,400 and 213,500.
World Series of Poker bracelet winner Chris Tryba might be a little hungrier for the win than the rest of the field as he came in second in this very event last year.
Greg Raymer, the 2004 WSOP main event champion and four-time Heartland Poker Tour champion, has the chance to add a CPPT title to his lengthy resume. But before either man can take home the trophy, they will need to last through another day and a field that also includes 2006 World Poker Tour Foxwoods Poker Open winner Victor Ramdin, David Stefanski, Je Wook Oh, Roland Israelashvili, Tom Dobrilovic and Stanley Lee.
Day 2 will begin Sunday at 12 pm EST and once again, live updates and videos throughout the day will be featured on cardplayer.com.
