Poker Enthusiast Sam Simon Passes Away

Simpsons Co-Creator Dies At 59

Poker player and “Simpsons” co-creator Sam Simon passed away this week after a three-year battle with colon cancer. He was 59.

Over the years Simon quietly amassed quite the list of poker accomplishments. He won three no-limit hold’em tournaments, totaling more than $100,000. Combined with a deep run in the 2011 World Series of Poker main event, Simon collected $344,000 in lifetime earnings.

Though poker was a serious hobby for him, his winnings on the felt paled in comparison to the wealth he accumulated via his TV work. After finding out he had cancer, Simon said he gave nearly everything he had away. His networth was said to be around $400 million. Simon was an animal lover, and much of the money went to helping animals.

Simon was once married to actress and poker player Jennifer Tilly. Card Player spoke to Tilly this past summer about Simon’s battle with cancer.
