Atlantic City’s Trump Taj Mahal casino will be able to keep the Trump name, a development that is good news for poker players awaiting the casino’s planned re-opening of its storied poker room. The bankrupt casino closed its poker room last month.

Keeping the Trump name was seen as necessary for the property to continue to remain in business. Donald Trump, who still has a small piece (10 percent) of the casino’s parent company, Trump Entertainment, originally wanted his name of the property because he thought it was tarnishing his personal brand. Maybe Donald doesn’t read his own Tweets.

Trump and billionaire Carl Ichan, who is keeping the casino afloat as it struggles to figure out its future, agreed to a deal. The terms were not disclosed.

“I am happy to have reached a deal with Carl, someone who I have great respect for both personally and professionally,” Donald Trump said in a statement. “The Trump Taj Mahal, under the right leadership and with the proposed significant reinvestment in the property, can be, once again, a wonderful place for travel and entertainment.”

The casino’s poker room will re-open this summer, the casino said. With 48 tables, the Taj’s poker room was the second largest in the city behind the Borgata and its more than 80 tables.
