California Schedules Online Poker HearingsFour Separate Hearings Will Feature Discussion Of I-Poker |
|
Though a California-regulated online poker site could be a handful of years away, the state will keep at working through the complexities of legalizing the industry in four separate hearings planned in the coming weeks and months.
The number of hearings planned is the same as the number of online poker proposals currently on the table in the Golden State. None are expected to gain any traction this year and become law, thanks to long-standing disagreements among gaming interests in the state about who should have access to the largest intrastate online poker market in the country. California has more than 37 million people.
All the hearings will be held at 1:30 p.m. local time on their respective dates in the Capitol Building. Here’s a look at the hearings and their respective titles:
April 22: Gambling: Internet poker; discussion on AB 431.
May 20: Overview of Gambling in California–Legality, Authorization and Regulation
June 24: The Legality of Internet Poker–How Prepared is California to Regulate It?
July 8: Gambling: Internet poker: unlawful gambling activity; discussion on AB 9 and AB 167.
No California legislator has ever cast a vote on an online poker proposal.
