Pennsylvania is getting serious about regulated online poker.
On Tuesday, Mount Airy Casino Resort, one of the state’s 12 casinos, will host a public hearing for online gaming held by the House Gaming Oversight Committee, according to a report from the Pocono Record.
The hearing reportedly will be on the topic of how to keep the state’s casinos competitive in a casino arms race in the Northeast. Internet gaming is considered one of the best ways to accomplish this and prevent gambling revenue contraction. Pennsylvania is the second largest commercial (non-tribal) casino market in the nation, trailing only Nevada. The public hearing is scheduled for 2 p.m. EST at the casino.
Proposals in the Keystone State would allow the state’s 12 casinos to operate online gaming.
Currently, there are three pro-online poker bills and one anti-online poker bill on the table in the state. Pennsylvania lawmakers held their last online poker hearing on April 16.
The Pennsylvania House Gaming Oversight Committee is chaired by Rep. John Payne, one of the lawmakers pushing a bill for regulated online poker.
