Macau Casino Industry Has $2.4 Billion April

As Predicted, Gaming Win Falls 39 Percent Year-Over-Year

Macau had yet another poor month, winning $2.40 billion from gamblers in April. That’s nearly 40 percent less than gaming revenue in April 2014.

Gaming win has declined 11 straight months for Macau.

Year-to-date gaming win has fallen 37 percent compared to the same period last year.

Macau is the only place in China where casino gambling is legal, and the Chinese government has cracked down on the flow of money into Macau because of what it perceives as corruption in the process of high rollers getting the cash they want to play with.

Macau gaming has been relying on junket operators, middlemen which help facilitate the process. The Chinese government isn’t a big fan of current oversight pertaining to junkets.

The city has 35 casinos and more are in the pipeline, though there are concerns about new construction in a city that no longer will outpace Nevada gaming win by a huge margin.

Nevada wins roughly $11 billion a year off of gamblers. Macau’s record gaming win of $45.2 billion was set in 2013 and might never be topped.

Still, Macau yields about two and a half times the gaming revenue of Nevada per month.
