Kansas Governor Signs Fantasy Sports BillPlaying Them Online For Money Isn't Against The Law Anymore |

Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback has signed a bill making it clear that playing fantasy leagues for money is legal in the state. He signed the proposal into law on Tuesday, according to the Associated Press.
Rep. Brett Hildabrand, a Republican, said he introduced the bill to make sure residents aren’t going to be hit with gambling violations for playing fantasy sports online.
The bill labels fantasy sports as games based on the skill of the participants and distinguishes them for traditional sports betting, which is still illegal in Kansas.
The bill’s passage basically makes it so that fantasy sports leagues are not viewed as illegal lotteries in Kansas. Earlier this month, the Senate passed the bill by a 37-1 margin.
Despite previously viewing fantasy sports leagues as illegal lotteries, Kansas has never prosecuted anyone for the activity, according to the AP report.
