Daniel Negreanu has achieved incredible things in poker. The 40-year-old Poker Hall of Famer leads the all-time live tournament earnings money list with $29,942,773 in cashes over his career. He is a two-time Card Player Player of the Year award winner. He has 38 career titles, including six World Series of Poker bracelets and two World Poker Tour titles. Just about the only thing the Canadian superstar has not done in this game is win it’s biggest title: the WSOP main event.
That may soon change, though, as Negreanu had navigated a field of 6,420 players to end day 6 of the 2015 WSOP main event with 8,495,000. That puts him in ninth chip position with 27 players remaining in the hunt for the championship bracelet and the first-place prize of $7,680,021.
“There is one event in the world that everybody pays attention to, even if they’re not into poker, and this is the one! So making a deep run here is extra special,” Negreanu said in an interview with Card Player TV. “Winning is like that feather in the cap that we all want before we die, and this is a great opportunity. I’m going to seize the moment.”
Thomas Kearney leads the way into day 7 with 14,400,000 in chips. The 29-year-old poker pro specializes in cash games, primarily playing pot-limit Omaha both online and live. Kearney is based in Nevada and has found success on WSOP.com, where he has recorded the most tournament cashes statewide so far in 2015. He has accumulated more than $230,000 tournament cashes on the site since it launched.
Joining Kearney and Negreanu in the battle to make the November Nine tomorrow will be Joseph McKeehen (11,975,000), Justin “StealthMunk” Schwartz (7,510,000), Anton Morgenstern (6,955,000), Pierre Neuville (6,000,000), Blake Bohn (5,000,000) and WSOP bracelet winner Max Steinberg (3,290,000).
Plenty of notables hit the rail on day 6 including Justin Bonomo (64th – $96,445), Toby Lewis (53rd – $137,300), 2010 November Niner Matt Jarvis (51st – $137,300), Brian Hastings (49th – $137,300), Steve Gross (47th – $137,300), Mark “P0ker H0” Kroon (43rd – $164,086), and the last female player in the event Kelly Minkin (29th – $211,821).
In her final hand Minkin flopped trips tens with the 104 on a 10106 flop in a three-way limped pot. Federico Butteroni bet 150,000 and Minkin moved all in for just over 2 million.
Anton Morgenstern got out of the way and Butteroni made the call with the Q10 for trips with a superior kicker. The Q on the turn left Minkin drawing dead and she was sent to the rail with the second biggest payday of her tournament career.
With the elimination of Andrew Moreno (28th – $211,821) play was halted for the night, as the final 27 bagged up their chips knowing that they are guaranteed at least $262,574 and are in with a chance for much more.
There was a complete redraw at the end of the day, mixing up the tables for the day that will decide the 2015 WSOP main event final table. Play resumes at noon local time tomorrow and continues until the November Nine is decided.
