A charity poker tournament in New York City on Wednesday that featured the likes of poker pros Phil Hellmuth, Erik Seidel and Vanessa Selbst raised $850,000 for Education Reform Now, a non-profit group in the city, Business Insider reported.
The “Take ’Em To School” charity poker tournament also drew many hedge fund managers, including poker enthusiast David Einhorn of Greenlight Capital. Einhorn often competes in the highest buy-in events at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.
Poker players Andy Frankenberger and Layne Flack were also in attendance.
Former NBA players Allan Houston, Charles Smith, and John Starks were among the crowd of hundreds of players and onlookers as well.
According to the poker tournament’s website, a single seat in the event came with a price tag of $2,000, but with upgrades to one’s experience, the cost could have reached $250,000.
The tournament lasted about five hours.
