Brian Hastings playing studFor a lot of poker fans the name Brian Hastings will always be linked with the highest-stakes pot-limit Omaha and no-limit hold’em cash games online. It’s understandable. He did win over $4 million in one session playing playing against Viktor “Isildur1” Blom in 2009.

But in the year’s since Black Friday forever changed the online poker landscape Hastings has had to make some changes to his skill set. In recent years he has spent a lot of time and effort attempting to learn all of the games that comprise the most popular mixed game formats.

His investments have payed off in the form of two World Series of Poker gold bracelet wins during the summer of 2015, one in the $1,500 ten-game mix and another in the $10,000 seven-card stud championship. He now has three WSOP titles, having won the $10,000 no-limit hold’em heads-up championship in 2012.

As a former specialist in big-bet games who has expanded his horizons, Card Player TV thought Hastings would be just the person to talk to about players branching out to the stud games. CPTV’s video interview with Hastings gives plenty of advice for big-players looking to try their hand at stud high, including advice on starting hands and why fifth-street is such an important decision point in stud hands.
