The €50,000 buy-in Super High Roller event at EPT Barcelona drew a record 99 entries, 84 of them unique, creating a total prize pool of €4,753,485.
The field smashed last year’s record of 77 total entrants, when Olivier Busquet defeated Dan Colman for the title. This time around, the win went to French poker pro former WSOP November Niner Sylvain Loosli, who earned €1,224,000 ($1,419,840), the second largest score of his career. Loosli had previously banked $2,792,533 for his fourth-place finish in the 2013 WSOP main event.
The final table was predictably stacked with notable pros. American poker pro Byron Kaverman finished in ninth place, earning €123,600. It was his ninth final table of the year and as a result, he sits in fourth place in the Card Player Player of the Year standings with year-to-date winnings of $2,161,434.
Argentinian pro Ivan Luca, who picked up €280,500 for his sixth-place finish, added 306 POY points to his total, moving him into fifth place overall. He now has seven final tables and $1,497,915 in earnings this year.
Loosli’s heads-up opponent was 20-year-old Polish pro Dzmitry Urbanovich, who has also been on a tear this year, earning $3,544,555 at 10 final tables. He’s now ranked sixth in the POY standings. For his runner-up result, he took home €841,500.
