Wynn's Boston-Area Casino Has 'First Step'Site Preparation Underway As Gaming License Remains Contested |

Workers have began preparing the site for Wynn Resorts’ $1.7 billion casino near Boston, according to a report from Boston.com. The site preparation kicked off Thursday, despite the casino developer not knowing for sure whether it will be able to build it.
Wynn did get an environmental permit from the state late last month to clean up the former Monsanto Chemical site and already has a gaming license, but the city of Boston’s lawsuit against the Massachusetts Gaming Commission over allegations of misconduct involving the licensing process has been a factor in the project’s delays.
Boston Mayor Marty Walsh doesn’t want the casino in Everett and has feuded with Steve Wynn publicly over it. A court is currently considering the matter and the Gaming Commission has filed a motion to get the case tossed. The next court date is Sept. 22.
Everett Mayor Carlo DeMaria is confident about everything working out by the spring and ground officially being broken then. He told Boston.com that Thursday was “a small step, but a first step.”
