Tribes Seeking Location For Third Connecticut CasinoGroups Hoping A Third Casino Can Reverse Revenue Declines |

A third tribal casino in Connecticut moved closer to becoming a reality last week as the Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan tribes officially began looking for potential sites for a jointly-operated casino. State lawmakers haven’t yet approved a third casino, one that wouldn’t be on tribal land, but there’s a good chance they will.
According to the Associated Press, the request for location proposals was submitted to the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection.
The tribes, which operate competing casinos in the state, are worried about loss of revenue from a nearby MGM casino in Springfield, Mass. The tribes made their partnership official last month.
Both tribes ideally want a casino along the I-91 corridor in north-central Connecticut.
Gaming revenue at Connecticut’s two tribal casinos fell to under $2 billion in 2014.
In 2006, gaming revenue was $3.2 billion.
The planned MGM casino has been delayed until 2018. The casino operator has proposed a redesign of the property, and its president will be in Springfield this week to reaffirm the company’s commitment to the project, according to the AP.
