WA State HouseThe state of Washington will have a hearing in December about the fantasy sports industry, a lawmaker there said this week, according to a report from KING 5 News.

State Sen. Pam Roach said that a hearing in Olympia will focus on current law that makes fantasy sports for real money illegal within state borders, even though the law isn’t being enforced. Washington has a similar position on online poker—it’s illegal but poker players aren’t being arrested over it.

Roach actually has previously introduced a fantasy sports bill, but it didn’t gain enough traction. Her efforts will focus on making season-long leagues legal, but not daily fantasy sports sites. Though, she said that her bill could pave the way for those being made legal in the future, the report said.

Other states looking at the booming daily fantasy sports industry include Massachusetts, California, Nevada, Michigan and Florida. The state of New York has opened an inquiry into DFS sites.

According to Eilers Research, daily fantasy games will generate around $2.6 billion in entry fees this year and grow by 41 percent annually. The market could reach $14.4 billion in 2020.
