Pavlos Xantopoulos became the second Greek player ever to win a World Series of Poker gold bracelet when he topped a field of 256 players to win the 2015 WSOP Europe €3,250 no-limit hold’em main event.
For the win Xantopoulos earned €182,510 ($207,558 USD) and 612 Card Player Player of the Year points.
Xantopoulos’ victory came just under a week after Makarios Avramidis took down the kickoff event of this year’s WSOP Europe festival, the €2,200 no-limit hold’em six-max event. Avramidis was the first player from Greece to win a WSOP gold bracelet event.
Xantopoulos came into the final table in second chip position behind Mario Javier Lopez. The two survived to battle heads-up for the title and the bracelet. Xantopoulos began the showdown with the lead and was able to extend his advantage.
On the final hand Lopez moved all-in from the button with the 55 and Xantopoulos called with the A9. The board ran out A9883 and Xantopoulos flopped aces and nines to win the pot and the title.
