More than 10 individuals associated with competitive StarCraft II in South Korea have been arrested for match-fixing and gambling, according to media reports.

The Korean eSports Association found that at least five matches were tainted. A coach, two players, along with financial backers of the players, were implicated. The scheme allegedly had ties to organized crime.

The matches, which allegedly resulted in more than $60,000 in illegal proceeds, took place between January and June of this year. The coach and one of the players have already been banned for life.

South Korea has already taken a hard look at StarCraft and other eSports. Two years ago, the country said StarCraft is like gambling and needs some regulation.

The popularity of eSports has drawn interest from some of the top daily fantasy sports sites. DraftKings partnered with a handful of leading eSports organizations last month, which was later followed by FanDuel acquiring AlphaDraft, a leading fantasy eSports platform.
