Jonathan Duhamel topped a stacked final table in the 2015 World Series of Poker Europe €25,600 no-limit hold’em high roller event to win his third career WSOP gold bracelet and the €554,395 first-place prize.
“It feels even better than the second one,” Duhamel told WSOP.com reporters. “I felt like this tournament was really tough. It’s one of the toughest I’ve played in my life. To be able to win it, it means everything.”
This was Duhamel’s second bracelet win this year. Earlier this year the 2010 WSOP main event champion topped a huge field of 135 players in the $111,111 buy-in One Drop High Roller event at the series to win $3,989,985.
In addition to the hardware and the money this most recent win also awarded him 504 Card Player Player of the Year points. The Canadian has four total titles this year and five final table finishes. With 2,856 total POY points and year-to-date earnings of $4,811,811 Duhamel has climbed into 19th place in the Player of the Year standings.
With $17,571,162 in lifetime live tournament earnings Duhamel sits in ninth place on the all time money list, increasing his lead over tenth-place occupant John Juanda with this latest huge score.
Duhamel outlasted a tough international final table en route to the win. The top seven finishers from a field of 64 entries cashed in this tournament, with Jason Mercier ultimately finishing on the money bubble. Many of the high-stakes tournament worlds brightest young stars made the final table, including Tim Adams (7th – €81,420), Fedor Holz (6th – €96,625) and Mustapha Kanit (3rd – €227,145).
In the end it came down to a heads-up battle between Duhamel and two-time WSOP bracelet winner Davidi Kitai. The Belgian began heads-up play within a few big blinds of Duhamel, but the Canadian was able to quickly extend his lead. Kitai doubled up once to stay alive, but it turned out to be only delaying the inevitable.
On the final hand Kitai moved all-in from the button for 1,420,000 and Duhamel called the shove of roughly 14 big blinds with pocket sevens. Kitai could only produce the J7. The board ran out AK287 and Kitai was sent to the rail as the runner up, earning €342,620.
