|
Through the end of August, Nevada sports books have seen the amount wagered increase by 14.6 percent compared to the same period last year, according to the American Gaming Association, the casino industry’s leading lobbying group.
Nevada sports books saw $3.9 billion in wagers in all of 2014, winning $227 million. Both totals were all-time highs for the only state in the country with full sports betting.
There were 190 sports betting locations in Nevada last year, also an all-time high.
The AGA’s information was in the context of the growing push for regulation of daily fantasy sports sites, which were recently told by Nevada that they need licenses to operate.

According to Eilers Research, daily fantasy games will generate around $2.6 billion in entry fees this year and grow by 41 percent annually. The market could reach $14.4 billion in 2020.
According to the American Gaming Association, Americans bet at least $140 billion on sports illegally each year. The AGA is pushing for federal sports betting legislation. The state of New Jersey is currently challenging federal law that bans sports betting in all but a handful of states.
