A teen in the UK has been sentenced for a cyber attack on an online gambling site that resulted in an estimated 18,000 pound loss.
Late last week, 19-year-old Max Whitehouse appeared before Nottingham Crown Court and admitted to flooding the site with traffic to the point where it was temporarily inoperable, according to a report from the Daily Express.
He was sentenced to 12 months in prison for the crime, but it was suspended for a year. The judge was highly critical of Whitehouse in the sentencing but said he “believe[s] sending you to custody would be highly damaging and retrograde”.
A search of his residence by authorities also turned up a stash of weapons, but the court apparently agreed with the argument by the defense that there was no criminal intent with the firearms.
The judge scolded him by saying that he needs to “get a life” and “get out more.”
The company that suffered from the DDoS attack was not named.
