Unlucky gamblers are increasingly playing less and less of a role in the success of Nevada’s casino industry.
Nevada’s largest casinos had total revenue of nearly $24.6 billion in fiscal year 2015, according to figures released Friday by Silver State gaming regulators. The figure was for casinos that won at least $1 million from gamblers during FY 2015, which ran from July to June.
The $24.6 billion was the most since the $25 billion in revenue in 2008.
Arguably the most noteworthy figure of the annual gaming abstract was the percentage of total revenue that gaming win represented. Statewide gaming revenue during FY 2015 was $10.6 billion, or 43.2 percent of total revenue. According to research done by the University of Nevada Las Vegas, that’s a historic low.
In 1984, the farthest back the data goes, gaming win represented nearly 62 percent of total casino revenue in the fiscal year.
On the Strip, gaming win was just 34.9 percent of the total revenue of $16.74 billion, also an all-time low.
Revenue from hotel rooms, food, beverages and “other” (entertainment and retail) are bringing in more money for Nevada’s top casinos than ever before.
The number of Nevada casinos included in data from FY 2015 was 271.
Regulators added that in FY 2015, 68 casinos owned by public companies accounted for 78.1 percent of the total gaming revenue generated statewide during the fiscal year.
Revenues from calendar year 2015 haven’t been released yet.
Gaming revenue from poker has remained flat recently. Over the past 12 months, Nevada poker revenue was $117,897,000, down 2.02 percent compared to the same period a year ago. Statewide poker revenue in Nevada for calendar year 2014 was $119,904,000, down from $123,891,000 in 2013.
