Draftpot: NFL Divisional Playoff Daily Fantasy Sports PlaysHere's Some Daily Fantasy Sports Tips From An Expert |
|
The NFL DFS season comes to a close this weekend, as this is the last weekend with a real slate of games to play. Fortunately, this is a fun slate, with four competitive games and many of the NFL’s stars to choose from.
This week, we’ll be looking at the top plays on Draftpot in their GM mode. As always, we’ll use Draftpot Points Per Game (DPPG) as our ‘salary’ barometer, as that’s what Draftpot uses.

QB
Carson Palmer (20.46 DPPG) – While Green Bay does have a strong defense, so do many other teams in this round. In fact, the top six pass defenses by Football Outsiders DVOA are all in action this weekend. The two that aren’t in the top six are New England and Pittsburgh, and both are in the top half. That means we should look elsewhere for clues as to which quarterback may be in the best position to succeed this weekend. With Palmer, I’m looking at the betting lines. The Cardinals are at home and favored by 7 points in the game that has easily the highest projected total of the weekend. Sometimes, you just have to keep it simple. The odds makers are trying to tell us that the Arizona offense is the one to key in on this weekend, so taking their quarterback seems like a great place to start in DFS.
RB
David Johnson (13.49 DPPG) – Speaking of those Cardinals, rookie running back David Johnson was lighting it up before the Cardinals got spanked and essentially gave up at the half in week 17. Johnson is an athletic freak and extremely gifted runner who also excels in the pass game. While it’s not ideal in DFS tournaments to use a quarterback and running back from the same team, I could see making a case for it here. You have the Cardinals in clearly the best spot of all divisional round offenses, and a running back that compiled four receiving touchdowns this season. Expect Johnson to bounce back into form here against a 19th ranked Green Bay run defense DVOA.
WR
James Jones (11.56 DPPG) – A great way to add tournament-winning upside to your DFS rosters is to use game stacks. Here, we could add James Jones to our Carson Palmer and David Johnson pairing, with the hopes that the Cardinals are able to put up a good number of points, leaving Jones to rack up stats while the Packers throw it around the yard trying to catch up. The opposite scenario could also happen. Either way, Jones is a solid play no matter how you slice it, as he’s been Aaron Rodgers top target for over a month now and continued that trend in the wild card round with 11 targets against the Redskins. Jones is simply too cheap right now in daily fantasy.
TE
Greg Olsen (13.69 DPPG) – If the Seahawks defense has one glaring hole, it is defending the tight end. With a rock solid run defense and elite coverage on the outsides, the middle is where many teams look to beat the Seahawks. This was evident when these two teams squared off in week 6 and Olsen walked away with a 7-131-1 line as the Panthers eked out a four point win on a 4th quarter comeback. While this game projects to be a low scoring slugfest, Rob Gronkowski struggling with a knee issue leaves Greg Olsen as the tight end in the best position to succeed this weekend.
