Poker pro Sam Trickett is the new ambassador for a top poker site catering to people in India.

Starpoker.in said in a press release that it has brought on the services of the British poker star, who is the country’s all-time tournament money earner.

Trickett’s last sponsorship was with Everest Poker. Before that, he represented Matchbook.com and Titan Poker. In 2013, Trickett was given his very own poker room at a casino in Nottingham.

“I’m happy to confirm that I am the new Poker Brand Ambassador for the top Indian online poker room, Starpoker.in,” Trickett said in a statement. “I am excited to represent the Indian poker industry’s authentic poker brand and look forward to promoting poker in India alongside the Starpoker.in team and to interacting with our players online as well.”

India’s online poker industry is still in its infancy, with the Indian government still adjusting laws related to the games. A favorable August court ruling on rummy for real money has led to operators of online poker sites becoming more confident with their respective businesses.

It has been estimated that as many as 500,000 people in India play online poker for real money, which creates a market worth roughly the equivalent of $214 million USD. The market could triple in the near future if the game is completely approved by the government, according to Scroll.in.
