On Monday, April 4 it was announced that the 12th season of the World Series of Poker Circuit will conclude with the newly-named WSOP Global Casino Championship (formerly the WSOP National Championship) event taking place at the Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort in North Carolina.
The $1 million guaranteed freeroll event will run from August 9 – 11, and will take place amidst the first WSOP Circuit festival of the new season, a 12 gold-ring series of tournaments running from Aug. 4 – 16.
The WSOP Global Casino Championship is an official 2016 gold bracelet event that features a guaranteed prize pool of at least $1 million for players that qualify by winning a WSOPC main event or Casino Champion titles at any one of the many stops throughout the season. For the first time ever, it will welcome players from the WSOP International Circuit events, with players from venues in Morocco, Georgia, Italy, the Czech Republic, and Canada set to join the U.S. based event winners.
“The 2015 National Championship was a blast for us and we’re excited that the World Series of Poker is ramping up the game this year,” said Brooks Robinson, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Harrah’s Cherokee. “Not only do we get to welcome in players from around the world, but we also get to help kick off the 2016-17 Circuit season. It really is a fantastic opportunity for our employees to help showcase the resort.”
A total of 100 free seats will be awarded, with the aforementioned winners being joined by 50 players who will qualify by being among the top 50 in the WSOP Circuit’s U.S. leader board.
In addition to those who qualify for a free entry into the National Championship, the 100 players who sit atop the WSOP World Rankings are eligible to buy into this event for $10,000 as a result of their performance at all WSOP gold bracelet events over the previous two calendar years. In addition, for the first time ever, any player who won an official ring event on the WSOP Circuit this season also has the option to buy in to the Global Casino Championship directly for $10,000. as well. Players who buy in will have their $10,000 directly added to the prize pool rake-free along with the $1 million being put up by the WSOP.
All players who have earned a free entry will receive a $500 travel stipend and three nights at the Harrah’s Cherokee hotel , plus one additional night for anyone making the final table.
