Casinos across the state of Pennsylvania won $77,914,245 from their table games during the month of March, according to figures from Keystone State gaming regulators.
The figure is the new all-time high for the industry there, with March beating December 2015’s $72,223,959. The March win was 11.7-percent better than March 2015.
Of the nearly $80 million, $5,166,167 came from poker tables, of which there were 226 statewide. For comparison, Nevada’s 660 poker tables raked $8,975,000 in February.
Since mid-2010, when the first table games debuted in Pennsylvania, Keystone State poker rooms have raked $328,863,758, according to regulators.
Total tax revenue from Pennsylvania table games play during March was $11,052,726, with an average of 1,178 tables in operation statewide on a daily basis. Table game tax is 14 percent of gross revenue.
Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem led the way with $19,676,814 of March’s tables game revenue, followed by Parx Casino ($15,377,130) and SugarHouse Casino ($9,990,171).
Eight of the state’s 12 casinos saw year-over-year table game revenue gains.
SugarHouse Casino is the property behind the court challenge to a new casino coming to Philadelphia. In March, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court said that the state Gaming Control Board must take a closer look at the license for Live! Hotel & Casino Philadelphia.
While the state’s brick-and-mortar gaming industry continues to grow, Pennsylvania lawmakers are also considering legalizing online casino games, including poker. The games have been discussed as part of a budget plan.
