Atlantic City Betting On Open Containers Of AlcoholCity Council To Consider Ordinance Change Wednesday |

As state lawmakers are eyeing a takeover of its finances, struggling Atlantic City, which could also soon lose its casino gambling monopoly in New Jersey, has a new plan to help turn things around.
It involves booze.
Atlantic City has $550 million worth of debt and a $100 million budget deficit.
The City Council of Atlantic City will vote Wednesday on whether to allow people on the boardwalk to carry around open plastic containers of alcohol, according to a report from the Associated Press.
The law change would stipulate that the alcohol was purchased from licensed businesses adjacent to the boardwalk. A trial period will happen this summer if the City Council approves the ordinance.
The policy is intended to “facilitate and encourage pedestrian traffic,” according to a report from Press of Atlantic City.
