The $3,000 buy-in six-max limit hold’em event at the 2016 World Series of Poker drew a field of 245 players, creating a prize pool of $668,850. A total of 37 players finished in the money, earning a minimum payout of $4,578.
After three days of play, the bracelet and the $169,337 first-place prize was awarded to 33-year-old poker player Rafael Lebron from Takoma, Washington.
Believe it or not, this win wasn’t even the biggest score of this week for Lebron, who also finished runner-up in the $3,000 buy-in six-max pot-limit Omaha event for $212,779. Prior to this week, Lebron’s largest cash was for just $4,670 in a 2014 WSOP event.
“I wasn’t the best player at the final table at all,” Lebron admitted. “I might have been the worst. But, I got lucky. This was my day.”
The final table featured two former bracelet winners in 2015 WSOP main event champion Joe McKeehen (4th) and three-time WSOP winner and Card Player columnist Matt Matros (5th).
Other notables who made they money included Mikhail Semin (8th), Rep Porter (9th), Chris Klodnicki (12th), Ian Johns (14th), Jesse Martin (15th), Jason Somerville (17th), Ylon Schwartz (23rd), Terrence Chan (26th), Jeff Lisandro (28th), Eric Froehlich (33rd) and Jonathan Duhamel (34th).
As a result of his two big final table appearances this week, Lebron now has 1,662 Card Player Player of the Year points, putting him in 43rd place overall.
