CardPlayer.com reported earlier today that Harrah's announced a partnership with PartyPoker.net and that the online site was sponsoring the new World Series of Poker Europe tournaments.
However, CardPlayer.com has learned that it received a press release in error from the PR agency that represents the World Series of Poker Europe. Harrah's officials have confirmed that, in fact, the World Series of Poker Europe has yet to solidify a deal with any online poker site.
According to WSOP Director of Communications Gary Thompson there have been discussions with a number of potential presenting sponsors, among them Party Poker, and that the company is still in discussions with several potential sponsors.
The first
WSOP Europe series begins Sept. 6 with Sept. 8, with a
a three-day, £2,500 H.O.R.S.E. event at LCI's newest casino in Leicester Square, which opens this month.
The Leicester Square casino will also be the host casino for a two-day £5,000 pot-limit Omaha tournament that starts Sept. 8
and on Sept. 10, the WSOP Europe main event - the six-day, £10,000 no-limit hold'em championship - will take place at LCI's Leicester Square, The Sportsman, and Fifty casinos.
The winners of these events will receive bracelets just as do the winners at the WSOP held each summer in Las Vegas. The winners of the WSOP Circuit events receive rings.
These three events are the only ones scheduled so far for WSOP Europe. Please click here to read an article about the new series.
