Nevada casinos won just over $1 billion from gamblers during the month of July, a nearly 10-percent increase compared to July 2015, according to figures released Wednesday by state gaming regulators.
This July had one extra weekend than July 2015, which was helped the industry significantly. Nevada has more than 300 casinos.
Total slot machine revenue of $600 million was nearly unchanged from a year ago, but table games were up more than 25 percent year-over-year. Baccarat ($150 million) and blackjack ($114 million), the two most popular table games in the state, were up 44 and 40 percent year-over-year, respectively. Craps (up 12 percent to $34 million) and roulette (up six percent to $38 million) also had good months. Statewide poker rake of $12 million was up more than seven percent year-over-year as well.
“If [baccarat and blackjack] do well, it usually bodes well for the rest of the numbers,” said Dr. David Schwartz, Director of the UNLV Center for Gaming Research.
“What you saw was about half of the state’s increase coming from baccarat play on the Strip, but it was pretty good other than that,” he told Card Player. “Slot play was pretty much flat statewide, so there doesn’t seem to be a huge mass market resurgence.”
The Strip accounted for $613 million of the $1 billion, up nearly 17 percent year-over-year. Clark County as a whole was up 10 percent to $867 million.
