Salon.comIt’s not the sequel to “Rounders,” but Aaron Sorkin’s directorial debut with a film about Molly Bloom’s life as a high-stakes poker organizer has started to generate some hype. Shooting likely will begin in November, according to a report from screenrush.com.

The report also said that Michael Cera might join the cast, which already includes Jessica Chastain and Idris Elba. Cera is in talks to play a poker player. Chastain, of course, will be playing Molly Bloom, a former world-class skier turned poker host.

Elba will play Bloom’s lawyer.

Bloom was indicted by the federal government as part of a sweeping crackdown on illegal gambling, but she pled out, and in 2014 she didn’t receive prison time. Celebrities who played in Bloom-run games in L.A. or New York included Leonardo DiCaprio, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.

Bloom, who was called “Poker Princess,” made $1 million from hosting the games.

Sorkin was hired as the screenwriter for the film adaptation of Bloom’s memoir, “Molly’s Game,” back in 2014, but he later agreed to direct the project as well.

The progress with “Molly’s Game,” which will be filmed in Toronto, comes as momentum appears to be building for the follow-up to the 1998 film “Rounders.” Damon recently told “The Rich Eisen Show” that the movie has basically been written, and it would be about online poker.
