Homegrown online poker companines in India are worth a combined $120 million, according to a report from The Economic Times.

Currently, only three states—Karnataka, West Bengal and Nagaland—have classified poker as a game of skill, but more are considering it. The government’s progress in not seeing poker as traditional gambling has helped grow the Indian poker community to an estimated 1,000 pros.

Three of the largest online poker startups in India right now are Adda52, Poker-Baazi and Spartan Poker, the report said. Earlier this year, the World Poker Tour announced a licensing agreement with Adda52.com.

“The association with the World Poker Tour comes at a very crucial time in India,” said Anuj Gupta, Founder and CEO of Adda52.com. “There is a poker boom." Adam Pliska, President and CEO of the WPT, said India is “one of the fastest growing [poker] markets worldwide.”

More than two dozen online poker sites are in business in India.

While the startups are worth about $120 million, the size of the overall Indian online poker market has been estimated at $214 million.

An estimated 500,000 people play online poker for money in the country.
