New Jersey is mulling over a new bill that would allow two racetracks located outside of Atlantic City to offer online gambling. Under current law, online gambling operations must be based out of the seaside gambling town.
According to a report from Press of Atlantic City, the legislation would allow Monmouth Park Racetrack in Oceanport and Meadowlands Racing & Entertainment in East Rutherford to offer online gambling through partnerships with existing Atlantic City casino operators with internet betting businesses.
The proposal comes a month after New Jersey voters rejected a ballot question that sought to allow Las Vegas-style brick-and-mortar casinos in north New Jersey.
New Jersey legalized online gambling in 2013 to help struggling Atlantic City casinos. The following year, four of them closed. This year, another shut its doors.
Online gambling revenue is the Garden State is up about 30 percent this year. In 2015, the online casinos won about $150 million from gamblers.
