Juan Carlos Mortensen is this year's World Poker Tour champion.

With the win, Mortensen is the first player to hold both World Series of Poker and WPT championship titles.

Mortensen was part of a field of 639 players who paid $25,000 each to make the fifth WPT Championship the largest one yet. The players generated a prize pool of more than $15 million, of which $3.97 million went to Mortensen, who won his WSOP main event bracelet in 2001.

The top six finishers were:

  • Juan Carlos Mortensen, $3.97 million
  • Kirk Morrison, $2 million
  • Paul Lee, $1 million
  • Guy Laliberte, $696,000
  • Tim Phan, $484,000
  • Mike Wattel, $309,000
