Nevada casinos won $11.26 billion from gamblers in 2016, an increase of 1.3 percent compared to 2015.
According to the figures released Tuesday by gaming regulators, the casinos won $956 million in December, a decline of 2.7 percent year-over-year.
Of the $11.26 billion, about $7.16 billion came from slot machines, an increase of 2.3 percent compared to 2015. Revenue from the other games, including the tables, was $4.09 billion and was nearly unchanged (0.4 percent decrease) year-over-year.
The Las Vegas Strip area accounted for 56.7 percent of statewide gaming win ($6.38 billion). That was a half a percentage point better than in 2015.
The all-time high for Nevada gaming win was the $12.85 billion won in 2007. However, the Great Recession then hit and gaming win fell by about 10 percent each of the next two years.
Earlier this month, state officials reported that Nevada’s largest casinos had net income in the latest fiscal year, which was the first time that has happened in seven years.
Total casino industry revenue in FY 2016 was $25.23 billion. That includes gaming win and money from hotel rooms, food, beverage and other attractions.
In FY 2016, gaming win accounted for $10.76 billion, or 42.6 percent, of total revenue. That was a historic low. In 1984, the farthest back the data goes, gaming win represented nearly 62 percent of total casino revenue in the fiscal year, according to University of Nevada Las Vegas research.
