Partypoker announced Monday that John Duthie, founder and former CEO of the European Poker Tour, has agreed to a five-year deal as president of partypoker LIVE.

Partypoker LIVE is a new live global poker tour that the online gaming site announced in January. As a player, John has over $3.2 million in live tournament winnings and won the groundbreaking inaugural Poker Million in 2000. Originally a TV director, Duthie founded the EPT in 2004 and spent eight years building the EPT into arguably the most prestigious tour in the world before announcing his resignation in 2012.

John commented: “I have watched the progress of partypoker with interest and in particular the number of trusted, experienced and well respected individuals and organisations that have chosen to put their support behind the partypoker brand. I believe there is a gap in the market for an operator whose primary focus is poker and who will listen to and work with the poker community. This is something which was absolutely key to the success of the EPT."

“Despite being out of the business for four years, I still love the game just as much as the first time I saw my first flop and I believe my passion for poker will help partypoker LIVE become the largest and most fun poker tour in the world.”

Head of partypoker Tom Waters commented: “We are thrilled that John is joining us at the beginning on this exciting journey. There are very few people in the world who have made such a significant contribution to poker. His experience, relationships and understanding of players will be a huge asset. Our guarantees are ambitious, but our marketing strategy is to add value to players both online and live instead of spending our marketing budget outside of the poker community. Partypoker LIVE will offer a minimum $5 million guaranteed for a $5,000 buy-in, $1 million guaranteed for a $1,000 buy-in and $500,000 guaranteed for $200 buy-in.

Six events are currently confirmed.
